Increase font size Medical Doctorate Thesis The presentation of a dissertation has been one of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Medicine at Yale for over a century. Initially, case reports and reviews of literature predominated, but as the scientific method found its place in medicine, the faculty has required that dissertations presented be based on original investigation either in the laboratory or in the clinic. This experience is considered an important and essential phase of a curriculum which is designed to promote the development of critical judgment, habits of self-education and imagination, as well as the acquisition of knowledge and research skills. The first evidence that the thesis or dissertation was considered a requirement for the degree of Doctor of Medicine is in a statement in the catalog fromwhich in part reads, "
Center as Co-Director of the Imaging Section in the fall of Dr Morris and his students have been working on kinetic models to estimate the dynamics of endogenous neurotransmitters from PET data.
The movies can be viewed here movie of " early " finger-tapping, movie of " late " finger-tapping. Altered neurotransmitter kinetics may explain the mechanism of addiction of some drugs. A collection of papers to result from this project can be downloaded as a zip file here.
While in IndianaMorris and his colleagues focused much of their efforts on the use of PET to understand what makes drugs and alcohol addictive.
Their most recent publication in Alcoholism, Clinical and Experimental Research in is here. It represents the first demonstration in humans of the neurochemistry of reward prediction error. This work uses knowledge of neuropsychology, image processing, experimental study design, neurochemistry, and kinetic modeling.
Current Active Projects all use PET imaging and some type s of mathematical modeling Are kappa opiate receptors important for the treatment of alcoholism? Are there sex-differences in the kappa receptor system?
Is there a brain pattern of dopamine activation in the brain that represents the signature of addiction to smoking cigarettes?
To other drugs of abuse? Are kappa antagonists viable medications for the treatment of depression? What is the precise molecular target of the cancer drug erlotinib that is used to treat lung cancer? How is the pattern of dopamine activation in your brain during smoking altered by treatment?
Does stress add to the likelihood of relapse to smoking? Is dopamine the mediator of this effect? Many opportunities for students to do research rotations.
A recent paper details the design and validation of a stereotactic head-holder for imaging two rats in a PET scanner at the same time. The paper was published in Journal of Neuroscience Methods.Gary is introducing the Yale Energy Sciences Institute at the Yale West Campus 10 yr Anniversary Symposium Coleen, Shin Hee and Kelly displaying their free T-shirts from the Yale West Campus 10 yr Anniversary Symposium.
Undergraduate Research Pioneering Discoveries by Students While working with and learning from faculty at the forefront of some of today’s most exciting breakthroughs in all disciplines, Yale undergraduates have discovered new species, created new technologies, developed and patented new products, and co-authored original research.

The Yale-United Way partnership reflects the university’s commitment to service. YPPS supports that mission of service and this year’s Yale-United Way Campaign with a variety of materials designed, printed, posted and mailed.
The digital thesis deposit has been a graduation requirement since Starting in , alumni of the Yale School of Medicine were invited to participate in the YMTDL project by granting scanning and hosting permission to the Cushing/Whitney Medical Library, which digitized the Library’s print copy of their thesis or dissertation.
